Flor de Cana AdCelebrate U.S. Senate Seersucker Day on June 18th With Flor de Cana(R) Rum’s Summer Staple Cocktail: The Seersucker

NEW YORK, June 3 /PRNewswire/ – Think that seersucker is a lackluster fabric donned by stuffy southern elite and wealthy beachcombers? Think again! Seersucker, a thin, all-cotton fabric first introduced in the United States in the early 19th century, is seeing a major resurgence; becoming a favorite of celebrities, designers, senators, and warm-weather seekers. This year, as you salute the popular annual Senate Seersucker Thursday on June 18th, look to The Seersucker, Flor de Cana(R) rum’s signature summer cocktail, to be as crisp, classic, and refreshing as the fabric itself.

Senate Seersucker Thursday, annually commemorates when your United States Senators trade in their heavy suit for a more breathable alternative. Trent Lott, Mississippi’s U.S. Senator, revived Seersucker Day in 1996 as a deep-rooted southern tradition and a welcomed return to the Senate’s sartorial tradition. Every June, the Senate picks a day to encourage all U.S. Senators to wear the time-honored fabric, reminding them of a season of renewal and rejoice. Today, Senators agree on just one thing: sporting seersucker makes a classic fashion statement in the spirit of unity.

Inspired by this summer staple, top New York mixologist Brian Miller has created the one-of-a-kind Flor de Cana rum cocktail simply called The Seersucker. With a nod to a favorite picnic treat, tangy lemonade, this cocktail is made with zesty cinnamon bark syrup and refreshing lemon juice, served over crushed ice for an invigorating jolt of fashionable fervor. The heat from the cinnamon bark and the sweetness from strawberry create a sublime flavor explosion.

Flor de Cana’s Seersucker libation is poised to become as timeless as the fabric itself this summer season.
