Pernod Ricard Hosts Bastille Day with Traditional Cocktails – July 14
One may think all the hoopla of July celebration is over with the passing of Independence Day’s fireworks, but millions of French spirited individuals look to July 14 as their day of festive merriment as Bastille Day takes center stage. Bastille Day could be likened to Cinco de Mayo or St. Patrick’s Day, both of which are observed within the United States as celebrations though not recognized as our own national holidays. Each gives insight to traditions and history of other cultures while providing yet another opportunity for gathering with friends and family for fun and entertainment.
Though Bastille Day marks the beginning of the French Revolution it has evolved into a time of spirited celebration to embody the Republic’s three ideals – Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. All seriousness of the holiday’s origins aside, the French have also perfected the “raison d’etre” for eating, drinking and universal cause for high spirited merriment. Finding rationale for celebration is certainly something people from any country can relate to.
In true French fashion, Bastille Day is observed by participating in pétanque tournaments and mimicking the atmosphere of outdoor cafes while sipping pastis and water. Pernod Ricard plays host to Bastille Day by hosting two traditional pétanque tournaments in New York. Ricard cocktails and traditional French cuisine will be the order of the day.
