Fun Wine Facts

  • One survey concludes that women who consume 2 glasses of wine a day with regularity enjoy increased pleasure in sexual activity; more than their female counterparts who do not imbibe. Just another friendly reminder that drinking does a body good!
  • A “cork-tease” is someone who talks about a wine they will open but never do. Does that mean a “cocktail-tease” is someone who talks about cocktails they will make or create and never do?

Handsome Devil wine cork - Even wines are gender bias… delicate wines are referred to as feminine while heartier, more robust wines are referred to as masculine.

  • Even wines play gender favorites… delicate wines are referred to as feminine while heartier, more robust wines are referred to as masculine. I’ll have a big, full…um…glass of red wine please.
  • A standard 750ml bottle of wine contains 4-1/2 glasses of wine. 750ml = approximately 25.36 ounces. That works out to serving sizes of a little over 5-1/2 ounce each. So be careful with the next tidbit of information you see regarding calories per serving regarding wine.
  • A 4-ounce glass of wine is fat free, cholesterol free and contains approximately 80 to 100 calories. This 4-ounce to 100 calorie information is all over the internet. If you pour 4-ounce servings, you get 6-1/3 glasses of wine per standard 750ml bottle of wine. Calorie conscious drinker be aware. Those 5-1/2 ounce standard servings I talked previously are approximately 138 calories.
  • Didn’t finish all 4-1/2 glasses of wine in that bottle? That’s ok. Re-cork and refrigerate the wine. It will keep for two to four days. I know, I know. Leftover wine??
  • Most wines are produced as ready-to-drink without potential for improving with age. Only a few in comparison last more than a decade. And you thought Margaritas, Mudslides and fru-fru cocktails were the only bottled RTD’s in the liquor department. Wine is the ultimate in RTD’s.
  • Store corked wine bottles on their side to prevent the cork from drying out. Bottles with artificial corks or screw tops can be stored vertically.

  • Chill champagne or white wine faster by placing ice and kosher salt in a champagne bucket along with the bottle. This is the same process used when making and freezing ice cream. And let’s face it; champagne and ice cream are relationship food and beverage milestones. When you’re making it, it’s all champagne and bubbles. When it’s breaking apart, there’s nothing like ice cream to kick the blues.
  • It is estimated that there are 44 million bubbles in a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine. Can you imagine testing that theory just to be certain? …352, 353, 354, 359,…oh, shoot. I lost count. Guess I have to start over with a fresh bottle! The tragedy.
