CANADIAN CLUB® WHISKY RETURNS FOR “MO”

CC™ Partners with Movember for Second Year to Raise Awareness of Prostate and Testicular Cancer

 

Deerfield, Ill. September 24, 2009 - Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. [Fortune Brands, Inc. (NYSE:FO)], a global leader in premium spirits, and Canadian Club® Canadian whisky (CC™), one of the world’s leading Canadian whiskies, announce the renewal of their partnership and support of Movember, a charity that encourages men to grow a “Mo”— slang for moustache—for the month of November to raise awareness and funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF). To encourage employees and distributors to join the CC Movember team, Beam Global will match employee contributions up to $25,000.

 

Prostate Cancer FoundationThe CC Movember team will include “Mo Bros” who start clean shaven on Nov. 1 and grow a moustache throughout the month, while “Mo Sistas” will help by fundraising and recruiting Mo Bros to participate. The Mo is designed to start conversations about men’s health topics, including prostate and testicular cancer.

 

“We are excited to partner once again with the Movember Foundation to raise awareness and money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation,” said Kelly Doss, senior director, Bourbons and whiskeys, Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. “We believe that Canadian Club and Movember are timeless tokens of classic masculinity and found that Movember is a great way to get men talking about their health. With one in six men diagnosed with prostate cancer, Movember is a terrific way to bring attention to this serious matter.”

 

In its inaugural year with Movember, Canadian Club raised more than $26,000, the second highest amount of money raised by any team. The team consisted of nearly 100 Beam Global employees and partners. This year, Beam Global and Canadian Club are setting a goal to raise $60,000 with 150 participants.

 

CC will enlist legal purchase age consumers to become Mo Bros and Sistas through on-premise events throughout October and Movember at which their Mo growth will be measured. Participants will receive a CC trivia card featuring a Mo-related pop culture quiz to drive registration and create excitement around the program. Moustache drink stirrers, faux Mos, t-shirts, coasters and speciality Mo cocktails will be featured at the Movember events. Shelf talkers and case cards will be used in the off-premise to raise awareness of the program.

 

CC will help Mo Bros and Sistas celebrate the culmination of Movember with Gala Partés in 10 cities including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Chicago, Austin, Aspen, Seattle, Boston and Las Vegas for Mo Bros and Mo Sistas who raise at least $100 for prostate and testicular cancer.

 

Movember, the largest global event dedicated to men’s health, was born in 2003 when three friends in Melbourne, Australia decided it was time to bring back the moustache as a tool for men to break the ice in talking about a taboo subject – their health. To date, more than $47 million has been raised to support men’s health issues through official moustache-growing campaigns in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, New Zealand, Australia and Spain.

 

To participate, Mo Bros and Sistas can register through the newly redesigned Canadian Club website, www.CanadianClub.com. The website will feature images from last year’s efforts.

Bourbon Cocktail Recipe: Kentucky Cowhand

Kentucky Cowhand using Maker's Mark Bourbon - Bourbon Drink Recipe - Bourbon Heritage Month - photo property of The IntoxicologistThere is a strong sense of bourbon in this cocktail from the start without all the sugary noise.  Of course who would think a drink with a name like Kentucky Cowhand would be about fuss and sugar show anyway?  This plays well in a straight up cocktail, but it would work rather nicely shaken and strained over fresh ice to be leisurely sipped from an Old Fashioned glass. 

 

Kentucky Cowhand

2 parts Maker’s Mark Bourbon

1/4 part Southern Comfort

1/4 part Light Cream

 

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice.  Shake to blend and chill.  Strain into a martini glass.

Nationwide Poll Unveils “Bourbon on the Rocks” as America’s Preferred Bourbon Cocktail

 

Aug 25, 2009 2:36 PM CDT DEERFIELD, Ill.– (BUSINESS WIRE) – What Bourbon cocktails are Americans looking forward to enjoying most during Bourbon Heritage Month? According to a consumer survey released today from the leading American spirits company, Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. [Fortune Brands, Inc. (NYSE: FO)], Americans believe that “Bourbon on the Rocks” best captures the heritage of Bourbon, “America’s Native Spirit” as declared by the U.S. Congress in 1964.

 

Beam Global applauds Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear for signing a proclamation today which recognizes September as “Bourbon Heritage Month” for the third consecutive year. This proclamation honors the deep-rooted legacy of the Bourbon industry in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

 

In the spirit of this celebratory month and in collaboration with Clarus Research Group, Beam Global Spirits & Wine polled 970 legal purchase aged consumers nationwide asking them which cocktail best honors Bourbon’s 200-plus years of American history. Of those who made a choice, 45 percent selected “Bourbon on the Rocks,” which included 52 percent of male respondents and 39 percent of female respondents. The Manhattan and Old Fashioned each received 21 percent of the vote, while the Mint Julep received 13 percent.

 

“This survey confirms what so many bartenders already know: Consumers know what they want and how they want it,” said Bobby “G” Gleason, master mixologist, Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. “Bourbon is a popular spirit and although its versatility makes it a favorite in mixed drinks, it appears that Americans prefer their Bourbon on the Rocks.”

 

In addition to the survey, Beam Global also created a Facebook-based personality quiz application to celebrate the month. “Which Bourbon Cocktail Are You?” invites legal purchase aged consumers to discover which Bourbon cocktail best fits their unique personality and style. Legal purchase age consumers can access the quiz at: www.beamglobal.com/cs/quiz beginning September 1.

The Kentucky proclamation declaring September to be “Bourbon Heritage Month” calls for consumers who enjoy Bourbon to do so responsibly and in moderation, in Kentucky and across the globe.

 

The telephone-based survey was conducted among a national probability sample of 970 consumers aged 21 years or older and was completed during the period August 20-23, 2009. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.2 percent.

Jun 23, 2009 12:17 PM CDT-DEERFIELD, Ill.– (BUSINESS WIRE) — Beam Global Spirits & Wine, the premium spirits business of Fortune Brands (NYSE: FO), today announced it has acquired the EFFEN® Vodka brand from the Sazerac Company, Inc. EFFEN, named after the Dutch word for smooth, is a super-premium brand produced in Holland with a patented distillation process.

 

“EFFEN Vodka is an excellent fit with our brand portfolio, and we’re excited to put our sales and distribution muscle behind it to accelerate the brand’s growth,” said Matt Shattock, president and chief executive officer of Beam Global Spirits & Wine. “EFFEN has built a strong following in select markets, and we believe our sales and marketing organizations can help expand distribution and build excitement for EFFEN in many more markets in the U.S. and around the world.”

 

With annual net sales of approximately $10 million, EFFEN’s distribution is currently concentrated in Chicago, Southern California and major Florida markets. The EFFEN product line includes EFFEN Vodka, EFFEN Black Cherry Vodka and limited edition EFFEN Raspberry Vodka.

 

As part of the transaction for EFFEN, Beam Global has sold the Old Taylor whiskey brand and inventory to Sazerac. Other terms of the proposed transaction were not disclosed.
