A SPACEMAN’S SHOT – inspired by The Killers

1-1/2 ounce Cabo Blanco Tequila

3 dashes Tabasco Sauce

Cover the bottom of a shot glass with Tabasco sauce and fill the rest with Tequila. Finish with a lime wedge.

ALL I WANT IS THIS SHOT – inspired by U2

1 ounce Cabo Blanco Tequila

1/2 ounce Orange Liqueur

1/2 ounce Irish Cream

Carefully layer each ingredient in the following order: orange liqueur, Cabo Tequila, Irish Cream. Slam the shot.

SAMMY SLAMMER – inspired by Chickenfoot

1 ounce Cabo Reposado Tequila

1/2 ounce Almond Liqueur

Splash 151 Proof Rum

Layer Cabo Tequila and almond liqueur in a shot glass. Float 151 proof rum. Light a flame on top and serve. Extinguish flame and shoot.

HELLA GOOD SHOT – inspired by No Doubt

2 ounces Cabo Añejo Tequila

Orange Slice

Powdered Cinnamon

Wet the rim of a chilled shot glass with the orange slice.  Dip into powdered cinnamon. Place tequila in shaker with ice. Shake to chill. Strain into chilled shot glass. Slam the shot and bite into the orange slice to finish.

Cabo Wabo Tequila Rocks National Tequila Day

In honor of National Tequila Day Cabo Wabo Tequila sent out three unique recipes to liven up celebrations.  The Waborita stays most true to traditional style Margarita recipes while The Churro Margarita and The Guacarita venture into territory some would speculate as adventurous beyond the margarita glass.

Licor 43, Carolans Irish Cream and Tuaca all remind of creamy, buttery, decadent deliciousness.  Add in the tequila with cinnamon and sugar rim and this cocktail certainly takes off into the realm of luscious dessert feel.

2 ounces Cabo Wabo Añejo Tequila

1 ounce Licor 43

1 ounce Carolans Irish Cream

1/4 ounce Tuaca

Mix of Cinnamon and Sugar for the rim

Shake up liquid ingredients with ice. Strain cocktail over fresh ice into a rocks glass, rimmed with the cinnamon sugar mixture.

If there were ever a Margarita to pair with favorite guacamole and chips snack food The Guacarita would definitely be the one.  Technically Avocado is a fruit rather than vegetable like so many people believe it to be, so enjoy your green fruit blended to rock & roll bliss in this unexpected Margarita recipe.

The Guacarita

2 ounces Cabo Wabo Blanco Tequila

1/2 Skinned Avocado

1/4 ounce Agave Nectar

1/2 ounce Fresh Lime Juice

4 Cilantro leaves

Place all ingredients and ice into a blender. Blend on high for 10 seconds and pour into a margarita glass. Garnish with a short cilantro sprig.

Tales of the Margarita

The most popular anecdote claims that Carlos “Danny” Herrera developed the drink at his Tijuana-area restaurant, Rancho La Gloria, around 1938. Herrera created the cocktail for one of his customers, a beautiful show girl, and aspiring actress, Marjorie King, who was allergic to all hard alcohol except than tequila. She didn’t enjoy tequila alone, so Herrera started to experiment with different combinations to make the beverage more palatable. The most delicious combination mixed white tequila with lime juice, shaved ice, triple sec and surprisingly, salt. Herrera named his concoction “Margarita” in honor of his muse, Marjorie. – quoted from PR material

The Waborita

1 ounce Fresh Lime Juice

1 ounce Cointreau

2 ounces Cabo Wabo Reposado Tequila

Splash of Grand Marnier

Salt the rim of a large margarita glass. Combine ingredients in a shaker over ice and strain into the glass. Serve with a lime wheel.  (This signature margarita is served at Sammy Hagar’s new Las Vegas Cabo Wabo Cantina)

Campari: Summer Classic

Campari truly is a classic with no need for review.  While this spirit is widely consumed overseas it is not as common in some areas of the country in the United States.  Campari might be one of those spirits sitting on the Campari Neat copyrigh Cheri Loughlinliquor store shelf that intrigues by its color, character, mystique and sexiness, but leaves the average American consumer bewildered as to what exactly to do with it in the field of cocktails.

One seems to have to acquire a taste for this particular aperitif/spirit.  Campari’s aroma is dry with barely there sweetness if any at all.  Orange spice definitely becomes prevalent.  The taste is sweet, medium in body and spicy with a dry finish and slight bitterness.  Campari is definitely not a spirit most American’s walk up to a bar and think of first off for summery cocktails on the rocks as they might a Mojito, Margarita or Cosmopolitan.  But, Campari’s unique characteristics enable classic and new style cocktail creation with outside the box thinking.  The spice tones create an excellent base for fresh orange and citrus cocktails.  Bitter chocolate becomes another possibility for this interesting spirit.

1 ounce Campari

1-1/2 ounce Cabo Wabo Reposado Tequila

½ ounce Cointreau

1 ounce Lime Juice

Combine Campari, Cabo Wabo, Cointreau and lime juice in a cocktail shaker with ice.  Shake.  Strain into a margarita or martini glass.

The Campari Margarita smells fabulous!  The reposado shines through distinctly in the aroma.  Flavor balance between all components is well done.  Rather than orange character, there are definite cherry notes in this cocktail.  The finish is particularly drying.

Rather than overlook a spirit on the shelf for lack of knowing just what to do with it, pick it up for purchase.  Taste it as is, try it as recommended by the spirit company and then do a little experimentation on your own.  After all, what is the worst that could happen?  There may be a trickle or two of liquid that may end up down the drain if experimentation goes awry.  In all honesty every trial and error becomes a new level of learning how spirits work together.  Campari is just one spirit that adds new dimension to the cocktail.
