Get Bikini Ready with Low Calorie Cocktails

Pebble Beach 043

You know spring is in the air when scraps of fabric (ie: bathing suits) begin appearing on the sleek and slender mannequins that line our favorite retailers. Just the thought of spring and eventual summer brings warmth to my ice cold toes. But slipping into a bikini at the first sign of sunshine season sends a chill up my spine. If I want to enjoy Happy Hour, beach body means mixing low calorie cocktails at the bar.

There are several low calorie cocktails on the market in ready to serve bottled or prepackaged form. If you’ve already found a product you like that keeps you on track counting calories to keep your girlish figure, then definitely keep doing what works for you. I get bored with the same cocktail over and over. I refer to the low calorie cocktails I’ve created through the years for variety as well as the Counting Calories chart when I want to look up calorie count on various spirits.

Now grab your bikini and let’s head to the beach!

35% alcohol / 70 proofSkyy Coconut Vodka 006 copyright Cheri Loughlin

Aroma: Coconut. Not quite as “suntan lotion” aroma as some. No burn on nose.

Tasted Neat: Some sweetness. Usual alcohol warming. Light weight in mouth-feel. Coconut flavor has slight metallic back. Light coconut flavor rather than overly sweetened blaring coconut.

Review: Van Gogh Coconut Vodka

Van Gogh Coconut Vodka Tasting Notes

35% Alcohol. 70 Proof.

Aroma: Light coconut. Vague sweetness. Heat this in summer sun and definite sun tan lotion factor rises to the nose.

Van Gogh Coconut Vodka 2 photo copyright Cheri LoughlinTaste: Extreme sweetness. Burn when sampled neat. Toasted coconut. Butterscotch. Oatmeal. Hint of toffee mixed with cinnamon, but extremely faint. Much depth to this. Digging the toasted aspect. Reminds me of shredded toasted coconut and perfectly roasted marshmallows combined. Definitely no suntan lotion here!

Coconut vodka and rum are extremely popular for carefree cocktails and summer living. Ilina Ewen of Dirt & Noise recommended combining the following ingredients for a most delicious sip. Though Ilina and I didn’t discuss exact measurements and style of drink, I took a guess and the completed cocktail turned out rather lovely. The cocktail turns out quite sweet, but most certainly delicious. Give it a whirl on the rocks if you prefer.

Joyous Sipping

Definitely not for the faint of heart, Joyous Almond speaks to the serious candy loving cocktail lover. Though there are more ingredients involved in this cocktail than I’d usually like to list, they can be found easily and be used for many future cocktails or desserts. Joyous Almond pairs well with birthdays, Girls Night Out, in place of indulgent desserts or any darn time you feel like splurging on a few extra moments lingering over a decadent cocktail.
