The Black Velvet is said to have been invented at the Brooks’ Club in London in 1861 after the death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband. So in a way, the Black Velvet is a cocktail of mourning. Drown your sorrows or if you’re fortunate enough, cheer for the win and pour a Black Velvet in toast.
