Malibu Red sample provided by brand representatives. All photos, recipes and opinions are my own unless otherwise stated.
Malibu Red is made with Caribbean rum, tequila and coconut liqueur. It is bottled at 35% alcohol by volume (70 proof). Recipe on the back of the bottle is the Red Pocket Square: 1 ounce Malibu Red, 2 ounces Tonic, splash of Cranberry, built in a tall glass with ice and garnished with lime slice.
Malibu Red Tasting Notes
Aroma: Malibu Red smells like tequila or agave with some citrus notes. There is no burn on the nose.
Tasted neat: Medium burn. It is somewhat sweetened with grassy agave flavor and the faintest hint of coconut. The coconut is pretty mild. Serve this on the rocks with a salted glass rim for a mild, lightly sweetened Margarita flavor.
Sunset Over Malibu Recipe
Sunset Over Malibu is a tropical, fruit forward drink. It takes its cue from the Tequila Sunset that uses tequila, orange juice, and blackberry brandy. This drink is fun and fruity with balanced sweetness. It’s also so simple to make.
