When the evening calls for something classic the Brandy Sidecar is a go for the win. Traditionally this classic cocktail calls for a sugared or lollipop rim since the drink is a bit on the tart side. Personally I prefer my Sidecar without the sugared rim. Sugared rims are a little messy and I like my drinks a little tart. Kind of like me!
The Brandy Sidecar is citrusy with tones of rich dark spirit weaved throughout. The finish reminds me of marshmallow softness with subtle vanilla wisps. Cognac can also be used rather than brandy. Use what you like and enjoy the drink.
Brandy Sidecar
1-3/4 ounce E&J VSOP Brandy
3/4 ounce Cointreau Orange Liqueur
1/2 ounce Fresh Lemon Juice
Sugar & Lemon
Orange or Lemon Twist
Before juicing the lemon, cut in half and swirl it around the edge of a coupe glass. Dip the rim into a shallow plate of granulated sugar, trying to keep sugar on the outside of the rim rather than the inside. Set glass aside. Combine brandy, liqueur and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake to until well chilled; approximately 15 seconds. Strain into prepared coupe glass. Garnish with a fresh citrus twist.
