This Melon Mojito uses fresh seasonal fruits and herb for a superb fresh market cocktail flavor experience. Sipping this makes you feel like you’re drinking exceedingly fresh and healthy. Though, I am not making any claims to alcoholic drinks being within the realm of healthy lifestyle choices. The fresh fruit just makes it a little less of a guilty pleasure.
July 11 is National Mojito Day. Choose a simple classic Mojito cocktail to celebrate the day or go with a fresh fruit Melon Mojito.
Melon Mojito Drink Recipe
Melon Mojito – recipe by Cheri Loughlin, The Intoxicologist
2 ounces Silver Rum
1 cup fresh Watermelon – cut into small chunks
3/4 cup fresh Cantaloupe – cut into small chunks
15 fresh Mint Leaves
1 ounce fresh Lemon Juice
1/2 ounce Simple Syrup
Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Mint Sprig Garnish
Place watermelon, cantaloupe and mint leaves in a large mixing glass. Muddle to extract juices and essential oils from mint leaves. Add rum, lemon juice and simple syrup with ice. Shake to blend and chill. Strain into a tall glass over fresh ice. Garnish with fresh fruit and mint sprig.
I used Shellback Rum while creating this Mojito variation. However, feel free to use the rum of choice to recreate this drink at home. Happy sipping!
