Auchentoshan (pronounced ‘ock-un-tosh-un’) American Oak is triple distilled single malt scotch whisky matured in first fill North American oak casks. The oak barrels were once upon a time home to maturing bourbon. Once the Scotch has matured the contents of the casks are combined to create a smooth, crisp citrus foundation spirit.
Auchentoshan Single Malt Scotch Whiskey American Oak is 40% alcohol by volume or 80 proof. The price ranges from $38 to $50 depending upon your point of purchase.
Color: Beautiful bright gold, exactly as the distiller notes describe.
Nose: Citrus sweetness. Candied citrus and cherry. Light coconut. Comes across as a full and round spirit. Crisp. Faint hint of vanilla. No burn on the nose. The aroma suggests a full bodied, lush, fruit forward flavor.
Taste: Terrific mouthfeel. Bit of peat in the lingering finish. Candied grapefruit peel. Lush warming flavor such as brown sugar without the sweetness. Hint of peach.
Distiller notes also suggest bourbon vanilla and zesty citrus fruit on the nose. Vanilla cream, coconut and white peach on the tongue with crisp sugared grapefruit and spice in the finish.
