Even without the whipped cream garnish this milkshake-like drink recipe turns out heavenly with its frothy, creamy base that is strawberry fruity delicious without being over the top sweet. Boysenberry syrup gives the Oh Boy! Berries & Cream drink a hint of sweet with layer of lush flavor it needs for beauty, color and richness. When strawberries are not in seasons and the fruit lends itself to a little more tart than sweet, add a smidge more boysenberry syrup to dial up the flavor and keep this creamy berrylicious drink an ‘Oh Boy!’ treat year round.

O Boy! Berries & Cream Milkshake Recipe

Be sure to check out the amended recipe below for the blender version with ice cream. It makes a creamy milkshake version that is out of this world delicious!

O Boy! Berries & Cream – recipe by Cheri Loughlin, The Intoxicologist

4 Strawberries

1/4 ounce Boysenberry Syrup

3 ounces Half & Half

Whipped Cream – optional

Strawberry Garnish

1/4 ounce Boysenberry Syrup Garnish

Muddle four strawberries in the bottom of a mixing glass. Add 1/4 ounce boysenberry syrup, half & half and ice. Shake until contents thoroughly combined and well chilled. Strain into a large wine glass filled half with ice. Top with whipped cream if desired. Drizzle boysenberry syrup over the top. Place cut strawberry on the side of the glass.

Amended O Boy! Berries & Cream Milkshake recipe (2014): Place 4 to 6 large strawberries, boysenberry syrup, half & half and 1 to 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream in a blender (no ice). Blend until mixture is completely smooth. Pour into a large goblet or tall glass. Add dollop of whipped cream. Drizzle top with 1/4 ounce boysenberry syrup. Garnish with fresh strawberry.

I know what you mean Kim. Fresh strawberries are available here pretty much year round, but the always look bigger, brighter and fresher when they are in season close to home.
